JungleDisk is an online backup utility, similar to local favorite Mozy, that builds on Amazon’s S3 service. JungleDisk works with Windows, Mac, and Linux, with the added feature of letting you mount a disk on your computer. Simply copy to the disk all the files you want to backup and you’re done. The files are securely uploaded to S3 in the background, and storage is just $0.15 per gigabyte. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’ll certainly recommend this to my Mac-using friends.

    This sounds interesting. I need to chat with you about best options for backup as I am filling up the hard drive and one of the external drives as well. I will call you. Thank you.

    So, it doens’t always upload? I’m confused. I was reading it and it said that since its done in the background you don’t notice it. Do you know how you know so you can shut your computer/internet access down?

    Shaun: They’d probably know better than me, but I understand it to mean that files upload in the background and if you turn off your computer they’ll just start back up when you’re on again. Having always-on, broadband Internet is surely best for JungleDisk.

    We will offer a much more comprehensive service than what these ‘cheapos’ are offering, and will exclusively target the business sector. Our online backup software natively supports open and in-use Exchange and SQL databases, among other advanced functionality that is best suited to SMB/SMEs.
